TECHNICAL EVOLUTION
Why LogC3 LUTs Do NOT Work on LogC4
With the ALEXA 35, ARRI introduced LogC4 and ARRI Wide Gamut 4 (AWG4). Because the ALEXA 35 captures 17 stops (2.5 stops more than ALEXA Mini / LF), the logarithmic curve was completely redesigned:
- • LogC3 Middle Gray: 39% IRE.
- • LogC4 Middle Gray: 28% IRE (significantly lower to protect highlight latitude).
- • Color Space: AWG4 is larger than Rec.2020. Applying an old LogC3 LUT on LogC4 footage causes crushed shadows and over-saturated skin tones.
