EXPOSURE SCIENCE

The V-Log +1 EV Overexposure Rule

Panasonic V-Log has a very wide shadow latitude. However, if exposed strictly at base level in low light, shadow chroma noise can appear. The golden rule for Lumix V-Log is to overexpose middle gray by +0.7 to +1.0 EV:

  • • 18% Middle Gray Target: 42% IRE on your in-camera waveform.
  • • 90% White Target: 61% IRE (allows 39% headroom for specular highlights).
  • • Dual Native ISO (S5 II / S1H): Base 640 (Clean daylight) and Base 4000 (Low-light noise suppression).
